About us
Know Promises is a theatre ensemble that exists to explore the edges of performance—the in-between spaces where story, movement, ritual, and emotion collide. We are not a traditional theatre company. Instead, we are a collective of artists who create original work through collaboration, experimentation, and devised processes. We are drawn to projects that challenge assumptions, blur lines between performer and audience, and bring physicality, rhythm, and sensory experience to the forefront.
Our work often sits at the intersection of theatre, circus, music, and performance art, and it is always ensemble-led. From Crow Coma to Broken Clay, our projects investigate human experience, ritual, and transformation, using the body, space, and storytelling as primary tools. We are fascinated by ambiguity, the grey areas, and what is unseen, seeking to create moments where audiences are invited to observe, feel, and imagine beyond the obvious.
Training and practice are central to what we do. Ensemble members continually expand their craft through physical theatre, circus, voice, movement, devising, and sensory work, enabling each project to emerge from a place of rigor and authenticity. Collaboration is key: ideas are tested, shaped, and grown collectively, making the creative process as important as the final performance.
In essence, Know Promises is about opening the senses, exploring the unknown, and creating work that exists between certainty and possibility. We tell stories that ask questions, reveal human vulnerability, and celebrate creativity without limits. We are committed to pushing our practice, challenging ourselves and our audiences, and cultivating a space where play, movement, rhythm, and imagination guide us.
