Romeo & Juliet
Romeo & Juliet
Romeo & Juliet (‘Romeo Ja Juulia’ in Estonian) was a collaborative production between KPTC and Rakvere Waldorf School in Estonia. Waldorfschool invited two KPTC members over to Estonia to lead 11th degree through their theatre epoch.
The process began in winter 2024, with the main rehearsals taking place in March 2025, when we started working with the XI class. Through workshops, group discussions, and exploration of various theatre styles, the students — with guidance from the two facilitators (director & dramaturg) — decided to create their own devised version of Romeo and Juliet in a vignette style, focusing on three key elements to create their performance presentation:
XI class as themselves
Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
Various Theatre methods in a Vignette style (shadow, puppetry, picture caption etc)
Drawing from selected sections of the story chosen by the class, we began weaving together a unique performance language that incorporated Shadow Theatre, Puppetry and Object Manipulation, Classical Representation, Rhythm Play, Chorus and Conductor techniques, and Improvisation with audience interaction.
